'The seat of justice of Montgomery County was first located at Pinckney*. It was named for the early Pinckney.' ~ Goodwin Postal Guide HIST. The post office was established by 1867, discontinued in 1895, reestablished in 1896, and again discontinued by 1910. 'A town and former post office in the southeast part of Pinckney Township, about four miles north of the site of the original Pinckney. All that remains today is the school which closed in 1960 and the cemetery. IN 1867 it was re-located to this spot away from flood dangers. It was washed down the river and the ground upon which it stood has fallen into the river and been washed away. The original Pinckney was located on the Missouri River banks, across the river from today New Haven in Franklin County. Location of ghost town: Smith Creek Rd., about ¼ mile E.
